Welcome to TN Blue Stix Tryouts
Welcome! On behalf of all the coaches, players, and families, I want to sincerely thank you for attending this year's organizational tryout. We are very excited for the upcoming fall season and grateful you have chosen to explore the TN Blue Stix with your family. With so many options for travel teams, making room in your schedule to attend our event today takes commitment—thank you again for your trust and interest.
Our Story
For those who don't know me, let me introduce myself and share how the TN Blue Stix came about. My name is Jeremy Donegan. Five years ago, I was approached by Coach Jody Atwood of Lebanon High School Softball about partnering with his program to start a travel team for girls transitioning from the "rec" league, who would become future students of Lebanon High School. At that time, there were no local travel teams for these girls. Coach Atwood and I agreed that to elevate the level of play in Wilson County and surrounding areas, establishing a local travel team in Lebanon would offer families a fantastic opportunity.
From the beginning, I was passionate about doing "travel ball" differently, focusing on player development over simply chasing rings, supporting our community by encouraging school pride, and providing the flexibility for athletes to enjoy multiple sports. Our aim has always been to nurture a love of the game, build lifelong friendships, and help our players grow into outstanding young people.
With these values in mind, I co-founded the TN Blue Stix alongside my good friend and coach, Joey Njezic. Our daughters, Sadie, and Sloan had just finished their spring 8U season, and we worked together to assemble the very first Blue Stix roster for the fall of 2020, competing as a 9U team. Many of those original players are still with us today, a testament to the bonds and growth we have fostered together. Since then, we have continued to grow, adding teams each year and welcoming new waves of Blue Stix athletes. This fall, we are proud to have six teams taking part.
We are deeply grateful for every family who contributes their time and energy. Our volunteers are the heart of our organization, ensuring a warm, supportive environment for all players and their families.

How often do you practice?
Each coach sets their team's practice schedule based on the group's age and players' school sports commitments. Our goal is to maintain a manageable commitment for families, prevent player burnout, and help balance sport with family life.
How many tournaments do you play?
Head coaches set their team's tournament schedules. For instance, the 2012-Donegan team will play four tournaments in fall 2025—two in September and two in October—finishing by month's end. Below is their tentative schedule.

More Frequently Asked Questions
How many teams will you have?
We will have two 14U teams this season. We are always looking for enthusiastic parents to join our dedicated group of volunteer coaches—your involvement is highly valued and helps us provide a welcoming home for every player whose skills align with our Blue Stix standards. Tryouts are for 8u, 12u, and 14u.
Rosters are currently full for TN Blue Stix 2015-Ingram and TN Blue Stix 2014- Christenbury.
How many players will be on each team?
Each head coach decides the number of players to be included on the roster. It is anticipated that additional roster spots will be allocated to the 14u teams compared to the younger divisions, due to the increased school commitments typically managed by middle school athletes.
Are your coaches paid?
No, our coaches are volunteers—parents and community members who care deeply about their children and the families around them. We are incredibly thankful for their selfless dedication and ongoing support.
How is playing time determined?
Each coach is responsible for determining how to utilize their players. We encourage open conversations between families and coaches about playing time expectations to ensure every player has a positive Blue Stix experience.
How much does it cost to join a Blue Stix team?
Each team manages its own budget. Team fees cover facility costs, tournaments, insurance, equipment, and donations supporting Lebanon High School Softball and local middle school programs. Teams may also fundraise to help offset costs. We strive to be transparent and flexible to best support our families. An example for Spring 2025 player fees for TN Blue Stix 2012 -Donegan was $500 which included 6 tournaments and uniforms. Plan to budget for $750 for both fall and spring.
Are you insured?
Yes, TN Blue Stix, LLC is fully licensed and insured.
Final Questions
Are player fees tax deductible?
No, TN Blue Stix, LLC operates as a for-profit business, so player fees are not tax deductible.
When will players be notified if they made the team?
A coach will contact you within 48hours of the tryout to let you know if your child will be offered a position, asked to attend a second tryout, or if a roster spot is not available for your child.
Looking Forward
I'm genuinely looking forward to a season packed with unforgettable moments for every athlete and their families. This is our opportunity to shine—I'm eager to witness the victories, the spirit of teamwork, and perhaps even some truly "legendary" plays. It promises to be an amazing experience—no cap! (as the kids say) Blue Stix on three! One, two, three, Blue Stix! Let's go!
Sincerely,
Jeremy Donegan
